Racquel went out of her way to help us and even inquired about our drive home to Detroit. Honestly, I can’t remember the last time an employee made me feel so welcome, appreciated, and cared for at a hotel. I would always be so happy to see her at the front desk! I would say in jest, but also somewhat meaning it, “Oh look! There’s my new best friend Raquel!”. She assisted us when Dad & I were soaked during a rain storm, was very patient with our requests, and just an all-around wonderful person. She was so genuine, welcoming, fun, and kind. During our stay, we were lucky to see and be greeted by Racquel daily. He made sure to have some goodies for us in the room, and gave us a nice upgrade that was very comfortable for both my dad and me. Then, the day before we left, I spoke with Vincent and shared with him that my dad will be turning 80 within the next 6-7 months. She was very kind, thorough, and gracious. First off, I called Kimpton Onyx a few times to inquire about restaurants, and I spoke with Racquel and a couple occasions. We did take the T to Fenway from the North Station and that was a very easy walk and trip. The neighborhood is charming, and we were close to everywhere he wanted to go between the North End, Faneuil Hall/Quincy market, as well as even Boston Commons & the Back Bay. We were so very excited, and the Kimpton Onyx did not disappoint. I took my 79-year-old dad to Boston so that he could see Fenway for the first time ever. Parking was very expensive at $60, but everywhere in this area is that price, even not even in the downtown core. Because I was on multiple floors, the hotel smells on every floor and the walls are paper thin so you can hear what other people are saying when they walk around in the hallways. The room was quite small, but you could see the Asian-inspired Kimpton accessories that the hotel owners just kept without any renovation. We were willing to move to a king bedroom instead of two doubles, so we didn’t get an upgrade, but we did get a higher floor. I attached a picture here, mainly because that is the absolute worst view I have ever seen in a hotel in my life. Not that I necessarily needed an upgrade, but I needed a different room at a higher floor not next to a loud generator directly outside the window. I went on and for that night I was able to book basically every level of their hotel rooms. I walked out of the room immediately to change it, and a different check-in desk person said dismissively and immediately that there were no other rooms available. We got an absolutely terrible room on the second floor that was directly next to the power generator – which, of course meant that the room was shaking and noisy. We were two Diamond Hilton customers and there was basically no recognition of that even though we confirmed our status with the check-in desk. Essentially, that means they don’t have to provide any services like at a full brand Hilton or Hampton Inn. It was clear that this hotel did not have the brand standards of a Kimpton, and so went for one of these independent brands with Hilton. Typing the name "Onyx" into any GPS will bring you to the Kimpton, but it’s now a Hilton hotel. The first thing that I should say is that I assume that this hotel was previously a Kimpton property. Overall, the service here is subpar and so are the rooms.
